Two Week Look Ahead

Two Week Look Ahead - November 20, 2020

Quarter 1 has ended and we have started Quarter 2. We welcomed several remote students back to the hybrid model at the start of quarter 2. That went very well and we worked those students right back into our day to day operations. I hope everyone has a restful and Happy Thanksgiving. Please enjoy the time off.

Q1 Grades and Learning Concerns:

  • Q1 grades will be finalized and able to be viewed on PowerSchool Tuesday, November 20, 2020 by 3pm.

  • It has been brought to my attention by numerous teachers that students are telling teachers they are unable to complete assignments for various reasons.

  • We are in the midst of a global pandemic and we certainly want to be understanding with students around internet connecting issues and/or tech problems. With that being said some of the excuses that are being given for not completing work are very concerning.

  • Students are saying they are working, having to attend a sporting competition, and traveling which are not acceptable excuses for not completing work.

  • We certainly understand that extenuating circumstances come up. Sickness as well as other major family issues and, as always, we will work with the student and family.

  • The concern from a lot of the LHS staff is the emboldened excuses for not completing work. This year work is not different than other school years when it comes to expectations. Work has to be completed on time.

  • Thank you so much for your attention into this matter. Again we will always work with students and families but we have to make sure basic learning expectations are followed.

Travel & Holiday Gatherings

We can all make a difference to help stop the spread of COVID-19 at school and in our community. Please check out the COVID Response/Dashboard for the district. It can be found on the district and school websites. Aside from CDC and Mass DPH information, you will find guidance for Thanksgiving, out of state travel, and the recent orders from the Governor for masks, gathering and the stay at home advisory. The district expects that you will follow the Governor’s travel orders.

ATHLETICS:

Fall Athletics

Thank you to all of the coaches, athletes, officials, boosters, spectators and staff who made it possible to have a different, but none the less a fall season.

If you have not done so already please remember to turn in your lanyards and badge, and return your fall uniform. I would like to have all of these collected prior to Thanksgiving break. You can either return it to your coach or drop it off at the athletic director’s office in school. Please label the bag you return the items in so they can be accounted for correctly.

Winter Athletics

We are still in the process of waiting for MIAA approval, then league guidelines, then the information will be presented to the Lunenburg school committee regarding the district's direction surrounding winter sports. The earliest start for winter sports is December 14th, which could still be moved should our state or town's situation change. As soon as we have more detailed information, it will be communicated out.

Mr. Bunnell

Please enjoy your Thanksgiving Break and have a great weekend.

Best,

Mr. Rob McGrath
