Two Week Look Ahead

Two Week Look Ahead - November 14, 2019

It’s hard to believe that we are already into second term. Our fall sports season is coming to an end. The winter sports season will be beginning soon. The PowderPuff game will be held on Tuesday, November 19 starting at 6:00pm. Student council versus teachers then the junior girls take on the senior girls in the highly anticipated flag football game. Boys from the football team assist with coaching and refereeing. It is always a fun event for the student body.

Academic Achievement Rally

We will hold our annual Academic Achievement Rally, which always coincides with the annual Thanksgiving football game. At the rally, we recognized students who made honor roll for the first term and the Abigail Adams Award winners. We also celebrated four LHS students that on October 15, 2019 went to Worcester Polytechnic Institute to compete in the 32nd Annual WPI Mathematics Meet. They competed against 83 other schools in New England. The four students who competed for our school are: Breda Page Violette, Clair Delaney, Yu-Chi Liang, and Holly Smith. The top scoring student of Lunenburg’s team receives a $1,000 scholarship to WPI. This year, the Lunenburg top scoring participant is Breda Page Violette. Breda will receive a $1,000 scholarship to WPI in the fall of 2020 upon acceptance and attendance.

Drama Club

What We Leave Behind written and directed by Rose Beardmore. The play is on Thur. 11/21/19 and Fri. 11/22/19 at 6:30pm in the LMHS auditorium.

Thanksgiving Football

Our Thanksgiving football game will be played on Thursday, November 28 at 10:00 am versus Oakmont at Oakmont Regional High School. Hopefully the Blue Knights will be victorious over Oakmont. The band and the cheer team will be rooting our football team on to victory.

Gift Card Drive

The Lunenburg Public School Secretaries will be hosting its second annual gift card drive! With the holidays fast approaching, there are families in town that are in need of our support. This gift card drive will ease some of these holiday struggles, and bring joy to as many homes as possible. We are asking for help from the entire community to collect gift cards in any amount. Drop off locations are LMHS, TCP, LPS, THES, Public Safety Building, and Town Hall. We are always so impressed with the generosity of spirit in this community, and its ability to come together to help each other.

Tree Lighting

The annual tree lighting ceremony will be at the town gazebo Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Come join in the festivities and caroling at the annual tree lighting. Student council, National Honor Society, and Community Service Club members will be busy before Thanksgiving helping organize the food drive and distributing baskets to the local families in need. The Student Council Students are baking treats and making hot chocolate that will be sold at the tree lighting ceremony. All proceeds are donated to the Lions club to help people in need around the holidays. This event is organized by the school, fire, police, & DPW departments with support from the Lunenburg Turkey Hill Lion’s Club, area businesses, and community members.

Music Department

The LHS Marching Band had a successful season, with much dedication, enthusiasm and immense growth. We are truly proud of the students who worked so hard on and off the field to pull the show together. We would also like to thank all of the band families that helped with the construction of the scenery, painting, sewing, transporting equipment, fixing the set and all of the volunteers that jumped in to help on the pit crew. It has been an exciting fall with so many people involved. We appreciate everyone's support as well as all of the work done by the Lunenburg Music Aiders to make this all possible. From the marching band staff, THANK YOU!

The Lunenburg Middle and High Schools bands and choruses are working hard to get ready for their winter concerts. We hope you are able to support our students and come out to hear some great music. Both performances are in the LMHS Auditorium.

    • The Instrumental Concert, grades 6-12, is Thursday, December 12th at 7pm

Athletics

**Winter Sports Athletic Player/Parent/Coach Meeting and presentation has moved from December 5th to December 4th 6-7:30pm due to the town tree lighting

The initial registration period for winter athletics will close tomorrow November 16th. You will still be able to register for sports after November 16th, however anyone who registers after November 16th will incur an additional $25 late fee per registrant.

The LHS Cross-Country team finished the season with many excellent performances on both the boys and girls teams, in both league and district championship meets. Four runners earned Mid-Wach League All-Star recognition for performances at the league championship: Michael Alleva, Billy Cunningham, Lauren Long, and Abby Rodriquenz. The cross-country team had a fantastic season, with 7 athletes advancing to compete in the MA All-State Cross-Country Championship on Saturday, November 16th.

Michael Alleva, who was undefeated in dual/tri meets for the season and also the Mid-Wach D League champion, placed 3rd at the Central MA Championship this past Saturday and will represent LHS at the state meet. Michael is one of only 40 individuals in Division II advancing to the state meet. His 3rd place finish is believed to be the highest finish by a Luneburg HS boy in history. Also running well for Lunenburg: Billy Cunningham 36th, Ben Sweet 100th, Tristan Dance 112th, Aiden Contier 126th, Nick Fortier 146th, and Garyth Page Violette 163rd

The girls team, led by Lauren Long (4th) and Abby Rodriquenz (8th) finished 3rd as a team and this qualifies them to advance to the All-State meet as a team. Evee Mabon 27th, Captain Keena Kelly 42nd, Breanna Bajko 43rd, Grace Roy 49th. Lunenburg girls are one of only 20 division II teams in the state advancing to the all-state meet.

Great job Brayden Gendron for scoring a 3 over par 75 in districts for golf(3rd place overall out of 60+ golfers), earning him a spot in the State Championship.
