Reading

It is extremely important to read for a minimum of 20 minutes every day. All the research and information we have about learning and developing literacy says that reading (like any other skill) requires daily practice for someone to excel at it. It helps to read the same book both in class and at home. Students may choose to read any book they'd like in class and at home, keeping in mind that reading a variety of genres helps develop strong reading skills.

Audiobooks

Audiobooks are a great way to provide your child with an oral reading experience. Audiobooks count as reading in our class as long as students are completely focused on listening to the story. This means that students cannot be watching TV, playing on their electronic devices, or really, do anything other than listening to the book read aloud. It also helps for students to have a physical copy of the book to read along as they listen to the book read aloud by a master reader. Check them out at your local library branch for free!

Public Library

There are many resources to help your child continue to learn outside of school. One of the best places is also free! Our public library! Find books (both print and electronic in a variety of formats), classes, technology, read-alouds, and much more at your local branch of the Mercer County Public Library System in Lawrenceville. You can also borrow audiobooks for free from the library.
