This course focuses on the history of the World from the Renaissance through contemporary times with an emphasis on Western Civilization. It is a year-long (two semester) course which surveys political, economic, and social aspects of the course of Western history. The course emphasizes reading, writing and cognitive skill-building so that students can learn to solve problems individually and cooperatively. The course will become increasingly more challenging, with greater emphasis on reading and writing assignments, during the second semester. Students will learn to process information from the past in order to better understand a diverse and changing world--and their own role as participants.
