Curriculum

Reading:

We use Orton-Gillingham, or OG, for our pre-reading and reading curriculum in Pre-K. OG is a multi-sensory (visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile)structured language methodology. It in research-based and has been proven to be effective for more than 80 years. Based on best teaching practices, OG provides a structured and sequential format moving from concrete to abstract and from simple to complex. There is sufficient repetition to achieve automation and considerable scaffolding techniques to support students at any level

Every part of the OG method utilizes multi-sensory procedures for inputting and reinforcing information, this is what distinguishes OG from other phonics programs. The approach systematically addresses syllabic, morphemic, syntactic and semantic levels. The approach is derived from an understanding of the neurological basis of learning to read and spell. In the most simple terms it helps our students understand the alphabetic code, teaches them the science of reading, how words are broken down and rules of reading and spelling. These characteristics make the Orton-Gillingham method applicable to ALL students.

Math:

We use Dimensions Pre-K Math Curriculum. Dimensions is a sequential program that focuses on building a foundation in mathematical thinking, problem solving, reasoning and making connections as we use many different hands on and visual items. We address a number of different skills including: spatial skills, data analysis, measurement and estimation. We also start on algebraic, numerical, geometrical, statistical and analytical math concepts. Dimensions works well with the K-8th grade curriculum for an easy transition into kindergarten and beyond.

The sequence is designed to guide our curriculum in history, geography, science, literature, art, and music.

Second Step Social Emotional Curriculum:

Second Step is a research based SEL Curriculum especially designed to for preschool age children. Through the use of stories, songs, puppets and other multi-sensory games, children learn how: to identify emotions, how to regulate those emotions, use positive self talk, develop executive functioning skills, an increase in attention span and problem solving skills.
