Question & Answers

Q: Why do we have to change out/have a uniform?

A: Students change out of their school clothes into the Powell P.E. uniform for proper hygiene purposes. The uniform required helps us for a variety of reasons. 1) We know the student changed out. 2) We learn their names a lot faster since they are rarely seated in a specific "seating chart"! 3) If we have a substitute teacher he/she will know the student's name 4) Students have the appropriate length/attire by wearing the uniform.

Q: What are my options for changing out in the locker room? I feel like I need a little more privacy for changing out.

A: The locker room has 2 areas that may give you a bit more privacy. 1) The shower area. 2) The "pit" locker area. You are more than welcome to use these areas, but if these areas are full, you probably don't have time to wait. Remember, you get 4 minutes to change, so you may run out of time if you wait.

Q: Why do I need to have a Powell lock?

A: The Powell lock has a key hole on the back. If we need to get in and help a student at any time we are able to do that. Sometimes students mix their lock up with another student/jewelry falls through the lockers/ kids get injured or sick during class and need their items delivered to the main office before they go home. These are just a few times where we would use our key to open a locker for the student in need. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE would a teacher open a locker without necessity.

Q: What happens if I lose my lock?

A: 1st check the "lost lock box" located in the teacher's office. There you will look to match your serial number you wrote in your planner/phone to the various locks found. If that doesn't work the 1st time, come back as your lock may be turned in within the next couple of days. If still no luck, you can check each lock hanging on the lockers, flip them to see the serial numbers and try to find a match. Lastly, if you still have no luck, you will need to purchase another lock for $5 from your teacher.

Q: If I have or am getting over an injury or illness, what do I need to do in order to "sit out" of P.E. for the day?

A: Have a parent write you a note excusing you for the day or up to 5 days. Be specific on the note, how long it is you should be sitting out.

Q: If I need more time than a week to recover from illness/injury, what do I need to do in order to "sit out" of P.E. for the day?

A: A doctor's note is required. Please have the doctor be as specific as possible as to the time frame you cannot participate, as well as, your limitations. Sometimes you may only be limited in some areas and may be able to participate with some activities. Having the doctor be as specific as possible on the note helps us make the best plan of action for you!

Q: What if I have a serious injury that takes me out of P.E. for a prolonged time. How do I make that up?

A: See your teacher for possible options.

Q: Do I need to make up a class/activity if I am gone or if I have a note to sit out due to an injury/illness?

A: There are two types of classes/activities you need to make up - WOW (Workout of the Week) and missed fitness test (Push-up, Plank, Jump Rope, Timed Run). Efforts will be made to claim a student that has missed a WOW during tutorials, but it is the student's responsibility to access the PE Google Classroom to perform the WOW if they are not able to be claimed. Fitness tests may only be made-up during tutorial time or with prior arrangement with their teacher. Please see your teacher if you have questions.

Q: What happens if I missed a workout (WOW) that was graded? How do I make it up?

A: Workouts need to be made up during tutorials or on the PE Google Classroom. After completion of the make-up, students will self-assess their performance/effort, and their grade will be updated in the gradebook.

Q: What happens if I miss a fitness test?

A: Your teacher will attempt to claim you for tutorials. If this is not possible, other arrangements can be made. You have two weeks to make-up a fitness test. It is the student's responsibility to communicate with their teacher.
