5th Grade Policies

Water bottles: Please have your student bring a water bottle to school daily! Research shows that hydrated bodies and minds stay more focused.

Homework: read!!! Students will track their reading (book titles and minutes read) on a Google Doc housed in their Google Classroom. ANY type of reading is beneficial for students: reading to a younger sibling, reading independently, listening to you read aloud to them, etc. This reading log will be turned in monthly.

In addition, there will be a monthly writing prompt to respond to at the bottom of the reading log. Students will write one paragraph in response to this question over their reading. (The question will change monthly.)

PBIS/B3: Hopkins focuses on helping all members of our community be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind. We try to recognize and celebrate whenever students go above and beyond in demonstrating any of these values (through community time recognition, stickers, tickets, etc.). Of course, we all make mistakes some days. If your child fails to follow these expectations, he/she will have opportunities for warnings and refocus time. If needed, a reflection form will be brought home for you to review with him/her, sign, and return to school the following day. In more severe cases when an action hurts or puts others at risk, a discipline referral form will be brought to Mrs. Case and a more serious consequence will follow. I will always try to be proactive in communicating with you. Thank you, in advance, for your support and follow-through at home.

Birthdays: NO BIRTHDAY TREATS may be passed out this year. If you'd like, your child may donate a book to our classroom library instead, and we will fit in a time to read it aloud as a way to celebrate his/her birthday.
