Unless an exception is explicitly stated, wherever a conflict of information exists between the course syllabus and that which is contained herein, the course syllabus prevails. Additionally, wherever information exists in one entity (either the course syllabus or herein) but is not present in the other, such content is to be understood as part of the course syllabus.
The Learning Management System (LMS - Blackboard, Canvas, etc.) functions as your course's central hub. It cannot be overstated how important it is for you to learn how to use the LMS early in the semester because technology issues are never valid excuses for exceptions to course policy. Your LMS has an extensive help system should you have any issues.
I use Zoom to conduct all online meetings (classes and office hours) regardless of the web meeting application your particular university may use. Webcams and mics must be used. Click here for further information about obtaining and using Zoom.
Your university handles room assignments, so please take a moment to review your schedule. Keep in mind that courses with a lab component may have different rooms for lectures and labs. Your schedule contains all the necessary details.
Unless explicitly instructed via email or the LMS, wait until the first class meeting before purchasing your textbooks (or any course materials). If films are a part of your course (see your syllabus), wait until each film is assigned before acquiring it as titles may change.
If something is unclear during class, don't hesitate to ask. It's natural to feel confused sometimes, but remember, it is disastrous if you go too long not understanding lectures or readings. So, reach out, and we'll clarify it together.

Life can be unpredictable, and I understand that. However, being late or absent doesn't change the course or assignment policies. If you miss part or all of a lecture, connect with a classmate to catch up. We're all here to support each other.
Some institutions have a policy that allows students to leave a meeting if the professor hasn't arrived after x-minutes. I do not subscribe to this policy and, therefore, expect the class to remain until I arrive. This is especially relevant if a student (or indeed an entire class) misses an assignment because they left before my arrival. In such a situation, that student (or the class) fails the assignment.
If you decide to stop participating in the course, please follow your university's official procedures for withdrawal. It's essential to ensure you're officially withdrawn, as all students on the official roster at semester's end will receive a course grade.
I encourage you to make use of the university's Academic Resource Center, especially the Writing Center. Collaborating with tutors is an essential part of the learning process.
