Computer Technology @ Laurel Oaks

Welcome to the Laurel Oaks Adventist School Technology page.  This page will give you an overview of how technology is currently being used to enhance the learning environment at Laurel Oaks.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of the teachers, or send an email to the technology coordinator.

Laurel Oaks believes than computers and technology can be used to enhance student learning.  Computers allow students to practice specific learning topics, do research, and interact with other students or teachers.

Starting in the 2012-2013 school year, Laurel Oaks implemented Google Apps for Education.  This includes over 15 Chromebook notebook computers and multiple desktop computers which are in use by the students.  The school has wireless internet access throughout the building, which allows both teachers and students the flexibility to move around with the laptops.

The advantages of the Google Chrome environment in education are numerous.  From a student's perspective, they are able to login to their Google accounts from (either at school or at home) and instantly have access to all of their documents and school sponsored software programs.  These programs are also available to students from a home computer, which allows parents to participate in the student's learning.  Some programs allow parents to login to their student's accounts, and monitor their progress.  All you need is the free Chrome Browser installed on your home computer.

Other advantages of the Google Chrome environment are the management and security aspects.  Since only approved software is installed on the Chromebooks, this prevents problems such as viruses and malware.  It also prevents students from running inappropriate software on the school's equipment.

If you have any questions about anything in use at the school, please speak with your teacher or the principal.
