Element Wanted Poster

Your element is wanted by the police. Use the following guidelines to create a wanted poster to identify it for capture. Your poster should be done on a 8.5 x 11 piece of paper, up to a poster board size. It MUST be typed. It can be completed digitally on a Google Doc but must be able to be printed for display. Please be CREATIVE! Posters should be neat and easy to read, as well as colorful and eye catching. (Examples are posted on my website and are available in the classroom for you to look at.)

You may choose ANY element on the periodic table. (Only one student per element.)

This element project is to be completed INDIVIDUALLY. Choose an element that is different from your friends, so that it will be easier for you to make your work your own.

It will be due on Tuesday, April 9th ! You will very BRIEFLY tell the class about your Element on Tuesday, April 9th or Wednesday, April 10th.

Your poster must include the following parts:

1. HEADING – Wanted! Name of element and the chemical symbol for the element.

2. DESCRIPTION – This is valuable information! Include:

      1. Pictures (at least 2) Mandatory!
      2. Atomic number… ex. Hydrogen has an atomic number of 1
      3. Alias (A.K.A- Also Known As) – The chemical symbol or other names used for your element. Include historical names, common names, slang terms, etc.
      4. Physical properties – Describe at least 5 physical properties of the element (examples: color, odor, taste, clarity, texture, state, luster, density, malleability, ductility, hardness, viscosity, melting point, boiling point, solubility, etc.)

3. METHOD OF OPERATION: WANTED FOR - describe at least 3 uses of the element. (Examples: Life processes, industrial uses, be specific)

4. LAST KNOWN WHEREABOUTS

        1. Hangouts (Location where your element is found in nature)
        2. Buddies (Name another element your element reacts with and the compound that forms).

5. REPORT ON FIRST ARREST

        1. First Arresting Officer: Who discovered the element?
        2. Date arrested: When was it discovered?
        3. Particulars: How and where was it discovered?

(Note: some elements have been around so long that it is unknown when they were discovered)

6. WARNINGS –(Chemical Properties)

        • Are there any precautions that should be taken when handling this element?
        • Is it reactive, poisonous, flammable, corrosive, explosive, dangerous to your health or to the environment?

7. References Don’t forget to list your references (websites, books, etc. used)!

You should have at least three sources.

Check several websites for the same information to compare information for accuracy. Don’t simply trust the first website you check! You should individually search for specific information regarding your element by name after using the general sites listed above.
