Grade 7A Bible memory work 2025-26
Mrs. Van Pelt:
Reading: We are getting close to the end of our WWII book clubs. Students may need to complete their daily reading or responses at home.
Writing: Good copies of the Article of the Week, "Happiness Hacks" are due Tuesday, March 31.
WWW/Vocab: Students have an exercise book with all of their words and definitions. To find flashcards or other games/quizzes online, look for the root words at quizlet.com. "jur, jus, jud" homework and quiz: Thursday, March 25.
Art: Students are wrapping up their Art Project, "Rock Your Socks Art". It was so fun to have Katie and her sister Anne Luymes visit and share about Down Syndrome and "Rock Your Socks" Day.
History: We are currently learning about New France and British North America, 1713-1800. Test review for our intro, chapters 1 and 2 have been handed out to everyone now. History Test: Monday, March 30. After our test, we will continue to prepare in order to present our group inquiry project, "Culture and Tensions in New France, 1713-1755". Project presentations begin next week!
Science: We are currently working through Heat in the Environment. After the introduction into heat, we contined our investigation into heat: warmth and coldness; explaining hot and cold; theories of heat, including kinetic molecular theory; thermal expansion; convection, conduction, and radiation. A test review will be started in class this week (test date tba) and we will begin researching in class for our new HEAT projects. Note: students may need to bring materials to school.
Mr. Kooy:
Bible: Our current unit is a study of Jesus' early ministry. Students are reminded to keep on notes and assignments. Tests from the unit on the introduction to the Gospels have been returned.
Math: Our current topic is "Integers". The skills involve performing operations with positive and negative whole numbers. Tests on the measurement of 2-dimensional figures will be returned this week.

What 7B is up to...
Reading: We are reading an independent novel with the end goal of being able to complete a book talk beginning next week Tuesday.
Writing: We are in the midst of writing a fiction mystery narrative. We are learning about plot and what makes for a good mystery story. Good copies due Thursday before Easter
Math: We are learning about variables in math and algebraic expression, solving equalities and inequalities.
History: We are learning how to be a historian by framing history through the lens of: historical significance, continuity and change, cause and consequences, and historical perspectives/ context. We are learning how the key events between 1713-1800 shaped British North America. This week we've been learning about the importance of the land to Europeans and First Nations.
Science: We are learning about heat and how particles in gases, liquids, and solids react to being heated. We are also learning the various ways heat is transferred from one substance to another. Ask your student about where they see Convection, conduction, and radiation heat transfer in your home.
Bible: We are learning about Jesus' early ministry. From Jesus' baptism through to healing the Roman officials son.
Art: We are learning about Eritrean artist Yegisaw Michael and his community building art and are replicating his symbolic abstract art in a group project. We will also be having a guest artists in this week to learn and support down syndrome awareness day through art.

Kiwanis Music Festival: The Grade 8 Band will perform on Thursday, April 9 at Laurel Heights Secondary School, at 12:30 pm. Parents are welcome to attend. Students are asked to wear clean dark pants and a plain white shirt. Leggings are not appropriate for this event.
Math: We have moved on to study equations.
Reading: We are busy writing an essay response to our independent novels. I look forward to reading their reflections and analysis.
Writing: Persuasive Essays are next.
History: We are moving into our study of Confederation.

Health: Students have a friendship interview assignment to work on this week. The final assignment is due after the break.
Art: We have been producing our own impressionist painting of a landscape of our choice. Students are being stretched to not focus so closely on details but to be creative with their impressions.
Bible: We are coming to the end of our Bible unit on the Birth of the Church. We will have a unit test next week. It will be less on lesson details and more on overall themes and our reflections about what we have learned in this unit.

Science: We are currently wrapping up our unit about Cells. Students have been planning their Cell Projects in class. See Google Classroom for details about the project. Students have brought materials - or will need to bring materials - to school to work on their projects. Next week, I hope to send home a review. Cells Unit Test date tba.
