Welcome to 7A! Coming up...our School Spirit Team encourages students to dress up for Spring Colours Day on Wed., March 11. Students are also welcome to create a spring-themed 2 dimensional Art project and/or poem and enter them in the contest by Tuesday, March 10.
Memory Work is weekly. A link has been posted below for a digital copy of Memory Work. Students are reminded to prepare adequately for the weekly quiz on Thursdays.
Grade 7A Bible memory work 2025-26
Mrs. Van Pelt:
Reading: We have begun our WWII book clubs. Students may need to complete their daily reading or responses at home. If you are the questioner, you may bring a snack to share with your group (4-5 ppl only) for your DAY. Note: we have Reading every day except Thursday.
Writing: Rough drafts due Tuesday, Feb. 24. We will continue with protocols and editing on Friday, Feb. 27. Good copies are due Friday, March 6.
Students will begin a one pager based on Black History in Canada this week. Rough drafts due Friday, March 6.
WWW/Vocab: Students have an exercise book with all of their words and definitions. To find flashcards or other games/quizzes online, look for the root words at quizlet.com. "cred" homework and quiz on Thursday, March 5.
Art: Students are currently finishing their group Art Project about Community, in the style of Yegisaw Michael. Next, they will be starting our shoe and "Rock Your Socks Art" project.
History: We have started our new unit about Canada's New France and British North America, 1713-1800. After our unit introduction and lessons on the changes in New France/BNA in 1713, we started research for our group inquiry project, "Culture and Tensions in New France, 1713-1755". See googleclassroom for more details about the project.
Science: Title pages for our new unit, Heat in the Environment are due Tuesday, Feb. 24. There will be no more class time given, so students need to finish these for homework. After the introduction into heat, we continuing our investigation into heat: warmth and coldness; explaining hot and cold; theories of heat, including kinetic molecular theory; and thermal expansion.
Mr. Kooy:
Bible: Our current unit is a study of Jesus' early ministry. Students are reminded to keep on notes and assignments. Tests from the unit on the introduction to the Gospels have been returned.
Math: Our current topic is "Integers". The skills involve performing operations with positive and negative whole numbers. Tests on the measurement of 2-dimensional figures will be returned this week.

What 7B is up to...
Reading: We finished reading "Touching Spirit Bear" by Ben Mikaelsen and are now summarizing our learning by creating a short film or movie trailer based on the book. Students are using one of the given options to visually display the main themes and events of the novel.
Writing: We are in the midst of writing a fiction mystery narrative. We are learning about plot and what makes for a good mystery story.
Math: We are learning to add and subtract positive and negative integers (whole numbers).
History: We are learning how to be a historian by framing history through the lens of: historical significance, continuity and change, cause and consequences, and historical perspectives/ context. We are learning how the key events between 1713-1800 shaped British North America.
Science: We are learning about heat and how particles in gases, liquids, and solids react to being heated. We are also learning the various ways heat is transferred from one substance to another.
Bible: We are learning about Jesus' early ministry. From Jesus' baptism through to healing the Roman officials son.
Art: We are learning about colour theory and adding a little olympic flair.
Vocab: We are learning about the root word "Scrib" and "Script" this week.

Kiwanis Music Festival: The Grade 8 Band will perform on Thursday, April 9 at Laurel Heights Secondary School, at 12:30 pm. Parents are welcome to attend.
Math: We are wrapping up our study of transformations with a test, Friday, March 6.
Reading: Students are reading independent novels. We will write an essay response after March Break.
Writing: We are wrapping up our fables before March Break.
History: Our first history test, covering 1814-1838, will be Monday, March 9.

Health: Students have a friendship interview assignment to work on this week. The final assignment is due next week.
Art: We have been producing our own impressionist painting of a landscape of our choice. Students are being stretched to not focus so closely on details but to be creative with their impressions.
Bible: We are coming to the end of our Bible unit on the Birth of the Church. We will have a unit test next week. It will be less on lesson details and more on overall themes and our reflections about what we have learned in this unit.

Science: We have begun our new unit, all about Cells. We hope to work with microscopes in the next week. Stay tuned for more information about a project to follow.

Vocabulary: Here is a document with all the vocabulary lists for the year. Please bring a dictionary to school if you do not already have one. This is an important tool to have for vocabulary class.
