Grade 7A - Mrs. Van Pelt and Mr. Kooy's homeroom
Welcome to 7A! We look forward to meeting everyone at the Back to School Night next Thursday, September 11.
A parent letter was sent home on the first day of school. Please take the time to read through this, as it contains helpful information and details about life in grade 7. Also, please sign and return the forms if you have not yet done so. The forms include the walking trip permission form, the student code of conduct, immunization forms, and a field trip permission form.
Field trip to Hidden Acres Camp- Friday Sept 12. We look forward to a fun day of community building activities.

Grade 7A Bible memory work 2025-26
Mrs. Van Pelt:
Reading: We have started reading our class novel, Run, by Eric Walters. We will work in class together, but on occasion, there may be finish up homework.
Writing: We are currently learning about "The Danger of a Single Story" and responding with a creative one-pager.
WWW/Vocab: We are learning the definitions of "ped" words. Quiz: Thursday, Sept. 11. Spelling counts!
Art: Please bring in a photo/picture and materials for our first Art project (Self Portraits). If you have a photo for Friday, that would be great! Or, if you have an idea, but no picture, Mrs. Van Pelt can take your picture at school. See googleclassroom Art for more details.
Geography: We have started our introductory project: "Where in the World Am I From?" Students have been given homework: to ask questions and record answers about one branch of their family. Learning goals: for students to discover and/or understand their individual background while creating a project that shares the information with their classmates. Science: We have begun our first unit, Interactions in the Environment (Ecosystems).
Mr. Kooy:
Bible: Our first Bible unit will be an introduction to the Gospels- the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Math: Our first math unit is a "number sense" unit- place value, factors, multiples, order of operations and exponents.

Grade 8A -Mrs. Eelkema
Math: Over the first few weeks, we will study number relationships such as multiples, factors, scientific notation, powers of numbers, and square roots.
Reading: Our class will be studying the award-winning novel Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhhà Lai. This beautifully written story, told in verse, follows a young girl named Hà as she and her family flee Vietnam after the war and begin a new life in Alabama. Through Hà’s journey, students will explore themes of resilience, family, and hope.
Writing: We begin our year appreciating the awesomeness of God. Our "Awesome" paragraph (final copy) is due Wednesday, September 10.
Geography: Our first unit will focus on human settlement patterns and sustainability. We will examine the relationships between the human and physical environments and the impact each has upon the other. Why should we care about changing populations? How can we create more sustainable communities?

Reading: We will begin our year studying a variety of short stories from the anthology Choices and Decisions with the theme of Responding to Injustice.
Math: Over the first few weeks, we will study number relationships such as multiples, factors, scientific notation, powers of numbers, and square roots.
Geography: Our first unit will focus on human settlement patterns and sustainability. We will examine the relationships between the human and physical environments and the impact each has upon the other. Why should we care about changing populations? How can we create more sustainable communities?
Science: We begin our year learning about Water. This ties in nicely with our first field trip: Canoeing on the Grand.
