This page is a guide for understanding the i-Ready scores provided on the Parent Portal. An example of these scores is provided below with some key terms and definitions.
Key Terms
Test - The test administration. iReady is administered three times each year (Fall, Winter, and Spring). iReady is called an "Interim Formative Assessment" and each district is required by state law to administer these kinds of tests in Math and ELA three times each year.
Test Date - This is the date that the child took the assessment. Each administration (Fall, Winter, and Spring) takes place during a window of time (usually about 2-3 weeks). A student may take a single test over multiple days. The date shown here is when they began the test.
Grade Level - This is the grade level that your child was in when he or she took the test.
Score Name - There are several values for score name. Definitions for each are listed below.
Reading OR Math - This is the subject area score for the student. iReady scale scores range from 100 to 800. Higher values are better.
Typical Growth Target - This is the number of points that your student needs to grow from Fall to Spring in order to make about a year's worth of growth. This value will not change after the Fall administration. This much growth will not move the student to a higher level of proficiency. It will just make sure that they keep up with other similar students. By Winter, a student should have grown at least half this number of points since the Fall.
Stretch Growth Target - This is the number of points required to reach a higher level of proficiency. This value will not change after the Fall administration. This much growth will ensure that the student will achieve at even higher levels and move ahead of similar students. A student is on track to meet this growth target if, by Winter, the student has grown at least half this number of points since the Fall.
Percentile - This value shows how well a student's scores compare to other students in the same grade across the country. For example, a student with a percentile of 90 scored as well as or better than 90% of students across the country.
Overall Performance - This value shows how a student's score compares to their current grade placement. There are five possible values for this: Mid or Above Grade, Early On Grade, 1 Grade Level Below, 2 Grade Levels Below, or 3 or More Grade Levels Below. It is important to note that it is not unusual for students in the Fall administration to be below grade level, because they are learning all new content. Scores should improve over the course of the year as students are learning new things.
i-Ready Test Scores are used by your child's teachers to make important instructional decisions about how they can best serve your child's educational needs. They are also helpful for parents and guardians to monitor the child's learning at home. The i-Ready scores shown on the Parent Portal provide parents and guardians with a basic overview of a student's achievement and progress toward goals. If you would like a more detailed explanation of your child's progress, please schedule time with your child's teacher so they can share an in-depth report with you and discuss how you can assist with your child's learning at home.
