Welcome to Chorus at LMS!
I am so excited to be working with all of our chorus students this year! In chorus we learn music reading/literacy skills, vocal technique, citizenship, responsibility and so much more! Students have opportunities both in and outside of the classroom to grow as leaders and musicians.
Below you will find information about chorus at each grade level and what they typically participate In. Each class and grade has their own class dojo code so students and parents can subscribe for updates. Also the sub pages Include links to practice tracks, documents that have been sent home, forms that may need to be completed, and contact Information for me.
6th Grade
Sixth grade students perform at least twice throughout the year, in December and May. This year we are offering a couple of extra opportunities specifically for 6th grade chorus students. In between performance preparations we spend a lot of time in sixth grade focusing on sight-reading and music literacy skills that will help students be successful in learning concert repertoire and skills they can use in future music classes. Extra opportunities to perform will depend on student behavior and knowledge of their music.
7th and 8th Grade
7th and 8th grade students perform in two concerts per year and also have additional performance opportunities if they choose. Students are expected to participate in a concert each December and May.
In addition to our curricular concerts and community performances, 7th and 8th grade chorus students have access to many other extra curricular music activities in All County Chorus. More opportunities may be available depending on student interest.
7th and 8th grade choruses also participate in the NC Music Performance Adjudication event each year. Each group will perform two pieces that will be adjudicated by three judges who give the students feedback on their performance and technique. After singing, students will go to the sight-reading room where they will sight-read a rhythm and melodic passage and be rated. It is our goal to achieve Superior ratings on both!
