First Grade Objectives
Week: September 1-5
Reading:
We are focusing on social emotional learning and curious minds. We will practice blending out words, understanding syllables, and sounds. We will be working on our phonics skills the letters k/c, f, short o, d, h, z/s, short e, b, and l. We will be working on listening and comprehension skills throughout the week by reading short stories. When reading these short stories we will talk about characters, settings, and major events in a story using key details. We will describe people, places and things.
Spelling:
We will be starting spelling words in a couple weeks. When this begins there will be a list of words attached to this paper. We will have a test each Friday over the spelling words. I encourage you to study the list of words with your child each night.
Math:
We will be working on counting forward, backward and skip counting.
Handwriting & Writing:
We will work on our handwriting books. We will be working on forming our letters correctly. The students will write in their journals. We are learning about letter formation, correct spacing, capitalization and punctuation. We will focus on complete sentences.
Science / Social Studies:
Review content.
High Frequency words:

Reminders:
Show and tell is every Wednesday. Students can bring a toy that is able to fit inside their backpack and school appropriate. No toy guns, knives, etc.
Goodies with Grandparents is on Friday, September 5th at 11:15. Students will meet grandparents outside at the playground. If you have any questions please contact me. Thanks!
