Preparing for Retirement
Legacy cannot not offer advise or counsel regarding your pending retirement through the TRS system. You must contact TRS directly for guidance and instruction on steps required to successfully retire through TRS.
TRS recommends if you are considering retirement, to begin the process no less than 10-12 months prior to your expected retirement date. Please visit the Planning For Retirement section of the TRS website for more information.
Employment After Retirement
Individuals receiving retirement benefits from the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) may be employed under certain circumstances on a full or part-time basis, without affecting their benefits, according to TRS rules and state law. Detailed information about employment after retirement is available in the TRS publication Employment after Retirement.
Individuals whom are employed by Legacy that have retired through TRS and are receiving annuity payments, must adhere to the Employment After Retirement Limits in order to avoid any impact on your TRS annuity payment.
For additional information, employees can contact TRS by calling 800-223-8778 or 512-542-6400.
