About Ms. Wooldridge

My name is Kate Wooldridge and I have been part of the Westlake High School family for six years. I earned my undergraduate degree at UCLA majoring in history, my social science credential from CSUN and a M.A. program in Educational Leadership (Administration) at California Lutheran University.

At Westlake I teach U.S. and World history, psychology, and sociology. I am also proud to be a teacher in the Academy program. In addition to teaching, I am the Co-Coordinator for WOW and the advisor to the Tech Tribe. I believe it is incredibly important for a teacher to be involved with school activities beyond the classroom because my students' education is more than just the topics discussed in my class.

When I am not at school I spend my time hiking, rooting for the KC Royals, hanging with my friends and family, and caring for my menagerie of animals. My pets include my five cats - Peety, Oliver, and Zoe, Charlie and Suds, my two guinea pigs - Dizzy and Hazel, my border collie Abby, and my horse Emma. I have owned Emma since I was 14-years-old and I attribute many of my accomplishments to owning and caring for my horse. Caring for her taught me responsibility, compassion, patience and perseverance.

My educational philosophy is that education should be meaningful, engaging and pragmatic. I hold the highest academic expectations for all of my students. I understand that my students have many demands on their time and emotional health. Therefore, in addition to pushing my students to achieve their best academically, I also want to create a supportive classroom environment that takes into account their hectic lives. I also expect my students to treat everyone in my class, including me, with respect, kindness and to keep an open mind when listening to each other's opinions and experiences.

I am excited for another amazing school year at Westlake High School.
