Want to be in Girl's Athletics 7th or 8th grade?
There are four points of entry for girls who want to sign up for athletics:
Entry Point One - Current Seventh Graders Currently Enrolled in Athletics: Girls who are currently enrolled in athletics in the seventh grade may sign up for athletics again in the eighth grade as long as the student has met the requirement of participating or tried out in one school sponsored sport during her seventh grade year. Students who have not met this requirement must receive permission from Coach Hunt.
Entry Point Two - Enrolled in 6th grade Pre-Athletics: As a 6th grader you will have the option to enroll in Pre-Athletics. This course is designed as a year long preview of Athletics, and will give your daughter an overall picture of what level of commitment is expected in Athletics. If your daughter is enrolled in this class she will have the option to sign up for Athletics as a 7th grader.
Once in athletics, girls who want to play volleyball or basketball must still tryout and make the teams. Students who make the team will practice their sport during the athletics period as well as before/after school. Those who do not make the team will take part in the conditioning program (Off Season) during the period only.
Entry Point Three - Making the Volleyball Team: If a student is not enrolled in Pre-Athletics as a 6th grader, signs up for 7th/8th grade Lifetime Fitness, and then chooses to tryout for volleyball and makes the team. She will receive a schedule change and be placed in the athletics period at that time and for the remainder of the school year. These students will still be required to stay in Athletics the reminder of the year, even after the volleyball season is complete.
Entry Point Four - Making the Basketball Team: If a student is not enrolled in Pre-Athletics as a 6th grader, signs up for 7th/8th grade Lifetime Fitness, and then chooses to tryout for basketball and makes the team. She will receive a schedule change and be placed in the athletics period at that time and for the remainder of the school year. These students will still be required to stay in Athletics the reminder of the year, even after the basketball season is complete.
General Information: Athletics is considered a full year course. Students either sign up for the class at the start of the school year or move into the period because they have made either the volleyball or basketball team. The 7th grade volleyball and basketball team practices before school and into the 1st period athletics class. The 8th grade volleyball and basketball team practices during 8th period athletics class and after school. Girls that are in athletics are required to participate in one of the school sponsored sports (i.e. cross country, volleyball, basketball, track, or soccer).
