Encouraging your child to read at home on a regular basis and also talking with your child about what he/she is reading is a wonderful way to connect as well as to help your child continue to grow as a reader!

High Frequency Words:

These are now attached to the inside of their take home folder. If your child can read and spell these words automatically, they will be set up for great success in the future. Find some time to make flash cards or read and spell the list little by little at home. If you lose them here is the digital copy. 500 High Frequency Words

Book Recommendations:

DRA 50 https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/dra-50

DRA 60 https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/dra-60

Anything higher than this probably isn't appropriate. If you want to search 70, make sure you screen or pre-read the books just in case! Deep analysis and comprehension questions are a way to stretch without raising the book level.

Book Leveling Websites/Apps:

Some parents want to check and see if the book their child is reading is challenging enough. Go to these websites and type in the title (some let you scan the barcode). It will give you the level. If not, try googling the title + reading level DRA.

Book Wizard - free but only if published by scholastic

Literacy Leveler - App - this one does cost.

Lexile Level Book Search - this is Lexile. It does convert to DRA.
