Class Expectations
To be successful in PLTW, students should follow the four WMS Student Expectation:
Be prepared: have yourself and your materials ready for the appropriate class.
Be productive: Have evidence of quality work.
Be respectful: Care for the people and property around you. This includes no eating/drinking during certain times
Be responsible: Take ownership of your own attitude and actions.
Grading Policy
Daily work, tests, and projects account for 100% of the overall grade. While professionalism, which includes collaboration skills, preparation skills, presentation skills, work ethic and responsibility, accounts for 0% of a student's grade, it contributes to the overall success for all in class.
A student will be able to correct any classwork assignment or portions of a project up to 100% within the grading period, unless it was submitted after the due date (see late work policy).
Redo opportunities will be similar to the original quiz or test, and the student will be given 1 opportunity to retake a quiz/assessment and it must be completed in a tutorial session, unless otherwise arranged. The maximum score for an assessment or project redo is 90%. There will be a window of opportunity (5 school days) to complete the redo. It is their responsibility to notify the instructor of attempts and success made on a redo.
Late Work Policy
Work is considered late if submitted after the end of the day (11:59:59 p.m.) on the day it is due, unless otherwise specified. The student has the opportunity to turn work in within 5 days of the due date. After the 5 day grace period, the student needs to make arrangements to attend a tutorial to complete complete and turn in the assignment for up to an 80%. It is the student's responsibility to notify the instructor they have submitted late work. Incomplete assignments or unsubmitted work will convert to a 0 after the 5 day window.
Continuous Improvement (CI) Opportunities
Students with a cycle grade below 70 will be give one (1) opportunity for CI after a conference with the teacher and agreeing to a CI contract. The student must contact the teacher for CI opportunity within 1 week after report cards post. The student will complete the agreed upon assignments. The student must also attend at least 1 tutorial session in order to complete and turn in missing/incomplete assignments. After completion of the CI Contract, the student's cycle grade will be replaced. The maximum cycle grade for CI is 80%.
**CI may not be available for projects/assignments requiring specialized equipment.**
