Literacy Fun and Games

2022 Prep Parent Information

This booklet is to help parents, guardians, caregivers and family members of children in Prep to Year 2 support and build their children’s literacy confidence at home, while they are learning to read.

Throughout this booklet there are suggestions for making reading fun and interesting. These can be used when your child is reading to you but also when you are reading to your child.

Play with letters, words, and sounds! Having fun with language helps your child learn to crack the code of reading. The tips within this site offer some fun ways you can help your child become a happy and confident reader. Try a new tip each week. See what works best for your child.

Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading.
