Essential Agreements

At the beginning of the year, we discuss and write about our hopes and dreams for fifth grade.  We then talk about some rules that will be necessary in order for everyone to achieve their hopes and dreams.  After brainstorming a great number of rules, we categorize and condense them a number of times.  It takes a while, but everyone remains respectful throughout the entire process, both in agreement and disagreement.  Our final product is a list of three to five essential agreements for our classroom.

The Essential Agreements for our classroom for the 2025-2026 school year, arrived at by mutual consensus, are:

• Hablamos español (We speak Spanish)

• Cuidamos a las personas y los materiales (We take care of people and materials)

• Tenemos una actitud positiva y aceptamos errores (We have a positive attitude and we accept errors)

• Damos nuestro mejor (We do our best)

• Mostramos los atributos (We show the attributes) (a reference to the attributes of the IB learner profile)
