General Overview of the Joust

The Lake Park High School Marching Band proudly announces the 41st Annual Lancer Joust Marching Band Competition held on September 7, 2019. Event shirts will be for sale. Arrive early to send a shout out to your favorite band or band members!

Tickets can now be ordered in advance at this link. Please note, we accept cash and credit on day of event. Credit cards will be processed through Square and is available at all points of sale.

Gates will open at 12:30pm and the Joust competition will begin at 1:30pm at the Lake Park West Campus, on a Turf Field, where outstanding bands from Illinois and the Midwest will complete in three classes in a Preliminary and Finals competition format.

Bands are rated across the following captions:

Individual Performance-Music Individual Performance-Visual

Ensemble Performance-Music Ensemble Performance-Visual

General Effect-Music I & II General Effect-Visual

During Preliminary competition, Percussion and Auxiliary performances will also be scored. First place in each class plus the next seven highest scores will advance to finals competition in the evening. The Lake Park Marching Band will conclude the afternoon performances with their own exhibition performance at 5:00 p.m.

In addition to awards for the top three performances in each class, preliminary awards will be presented in each class for Best Music Performance, Best Visual Performance, Best General Effect, Percussion and Color Guard.

Bands, regardless of class, will return for the Finals Competition with Opening Ceremonies at 7:00pm. The first finals performance will begin at approximately 7:15 p.m.

There is a one-time charge for viewing any portion or all of the preliminary and finals competitions. Wristbands will be provided upon purchasing a ticket to allow audience members to enter and exit the viewing stands multiple times. Please note, we accept cash and credit on day of event. Credit cards will be processed through Square and is available at all points of sale.

Seating

Grandstand seating is first come, first serve in the West stands. Wristbands will be checked upon entering the West stands. We have sixteen spaces available for wheelchairs in the front stands with ramp access. Seating for band members and chaperones is available in the East stands only. Chaperones that prefer to sit in the West stands must purchase a regular adult admission. Seating areas will remain open between Prelims and Finals.

Concessions

Two full concession stands will be available with hot grilled food, salads, pizza and various other delicious items. All proceeds benefit the Lake Park Marching Band in an effort to travel and compete both locally and to BOA events this coming season. When possible we encourage our visiting bands and spectators to consider these reasonably priced options.

Parking

There is limited parking for visitors on the campus grounds. We strongly recommend guests to carpool wherever possible. The main (east) parking lot will be reserved for bus and equipment truck traffic and handicap parking. An additional lot is available on the far west end of campus on Bryn Mawr across from the tennis courts. Additional parking will be will be permitted on designated side streets near the school at the direction of the Roselle Police Department. Please observe posted signs. The Roselle Park District reserves the use of the Clauss Recreation Center parking lot and facilities exclusively for Park events only.

Recordings

Bands participating in public performances are required to comply with copyright laws in regards to performance and/or arrangement of copyrighted music, visual images, and other materials , as well as the use of copyrighted audio or spoken text, and the display of copyrighted words and images. Guests are reminded that the use of any audio or video recording device is prohibited in support of U.S. copyright laws. Fans with still cameras are welcome to take photos for personal use.

Location

Lake Park West Campus is 3 miles west of the I-290/I-355/IL-53 junction. I-294 to I-290 West is the best option for travel from Wisconsin or Indiana and Chicago South. I-80 or I-88 to I-355 north is the choice from the southwest suburbs or western Illinois. The campus is 4 blocks west of Bloomingdale/Roselle Rd and half-way between Lake Street (US 20) and Irving Park Rd (IL 19).Click here for Google Maps Interactive directions.

First Aid

First Aid will be provided Roselle Fire Department paramedics on site. Serious emergency cases are transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

Non-Smoking Facility: The Lake Park Campus including all buildings and grounds has established a no smoking policy at all times. Thank you for your cooperation.
