- Rip the DVD disc with MakeMKV*
- Convert the MKV file from Step 1 into an m4v file using Handbrake
- Open the m4v file from Step 2 in MetaZ and enter the metadata that you require
*If your movie is on more than one disc you can rip each disc and then use MKVToolNix to merge the MKV files before proceeding to Step 2
- Insert the DVD into your computer
- Open the DVD in MakeMKV
- Select the Titles and the Tracks in the Title that you want to convert
- Select a destination location for the file to go to when it is ripped. I recommend ~/Movies/MakeMKV/
- Run MakeMKV
- Repeat until you have several movies ripped (5-10) or have completed ripping all of the discs for a TV season
- Once you have several MKV files from running MKV start Handbrake
- Open an MKV file in Handbrake
- Set the conversion settings that you want
- Name your file the name of the movie!!! This is important later. If it is a TV Show, the file name should be the name of the episode. If the episode has no name name it TVShow Season # Episode #.m4v
- Add the file to the "Queue"
- Repeat until you have added all of the MKV files that you currently have to the Queue
- Start the Queue
- Comeback several hours later and all of the files should be converted to whatever your output file type was
- Drag all of the m4v files into the right-hand side bar
- If named your file correctly in Step 4 in Using Handbrake, when you click on an item in the list it should automatically perform a search of online databases and automatically populate most of the fields.
- You can cycle through the sources to get the one that you want. You can Cycle through the Cover Art to find one that is good (higher resolution is usually better).
- When you have things setup, add the file to the queue.
- When you have done the above for all of the files, start the queue.
