This sophomore level honors course builds on the concepts of Algebra I with a combination of:
(1) new Geometric terms and applications, (2) the use of Algebra in the real world, and (3) highlights of mathematics to come.
Geometry is the second footing of mathematics of which the platform of Algebra II is built, and from which students can soar into a huge variety of fields so large that a lifetime is not long enough to truly appreciate the depth of knowledge and its usage in our society.
Four Tests, as defined in the student handbook, count 50% of the quarter average. These tests will usually be given the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th Wednesdays of the quarter with the journal being on the 6th.
The Journal pages that correspond with each lesson should be completed in class or afterward
and will be reviewed and graded in class. You should bring your journal every day.
Four Quizzes form 21-24% of the quarter average with each counting as a double daily grade.
Nine to Eleven Daily Assignments are the last 26-29%. The student should complete all the problems in their journal that go with each lesson before attempting the more challenging sectional focus problems assigned. Further understanding can be gained from the other exercises in the the textbook, BigIdeasMath Geometry, Texas Ed. This book is available through the BigIdeasMath website or as links below.
