FHLA Club: Future Hispanic Leaders of America
FHLA Club is a leadership club that seeks to build strong leaders at KHS. One way we lead is by helping our community through volunteer service projects, like running game booths for kids at various community festivals, picking up trash around town during Make Kilgore Shine, and raising money to fight cancer through local Relay for Life events. We are an active club and always have something going on. ANY KHS student may join. Our club dues are $20/year.
FHLA Club typically participates in the following yearly activities:
September
S.A.F.F.E. Day-We operate our game booths for this community event. It is an event for those with "special abilities" (special needs).
October
Hispanic Heritage Festival- We typically MC this event, run our games for the kids, and a group of our members show off their moves in a traditional Folklorico dance. This event is sponsored by KISD.
Oktoberfest- We run our game booths in this community festival.
November
Our annual "Christmas for a Cure" tree sale begins. We hand-make lighted tinsel trees and sell them to raise money to fight cancer. All profits are donated to the American Cancer Society through Kilgore's Relay for Life.
University tour field trip- We take a field trip to learn more about an area college. We visit and tour either Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches or UT-Tyler. We alternate between the two campuses.
Make Kilgore Shine- We help pick up trash around town to get the city sparkling clean for the holiday season.
Kilgore Christmas Parade- From our float, we greet the parade attendees with a smile and a joyful "Feliz Navidad!"
December
Lighting of the Derricks- We operate our game booths for community kids and also sell our "Christmas for a Cure" trees.
April
Kidsgogh Art Festival- We have an art booth where kids can paint their own cascarone (confetti egg).
Relay for Life-This is our biggest project of the year. We typically hold about four fundraisers during the school-year in preparation for this event. Our Relay for Life Team-THE DREAM TEAM-donates all the profits from these fundraisers to Relay for Life to combat cancer and help those battling cancer.

Membership Dues
Annual Club Dues are $20, which will cover your dues and t-shirt cost. Forms are available in Mrs. Haufler's class--Room 219. The
Hispanic Heritage Festival
This year's festival is on Tuesday, October 8 at the City Park. Bring some delicious Mexican food to share and join us as we celebrate the vibrancy of the Hispanic culture.
