Mrs. Cornell's Chatter

Welcome to Reading!

I'm so excited to work with your child and help them grow as a reader.  Please check out the different tabs along the top for more information.  On my website calendar tab, I will put events throughout the school year related to our class.  Events that are schoolwide, you will find on our school site calendar found on KG Elementary School's main website.   https://kges.kgcs.k12.va.us/    Please contact me by phone at 540-775-5411 or email at mcornell@kgcs.k12.va.us if you have any questions or concerns.   I am looking forward to an exciting and wonderful year with your child!

Spelling is not a stand alone activity, and it is more important to teach children how to spell and not what to spell.  Because spelling and reading are two sides of the same coin, children can use spelling to not only write (encode) but also to read (decode).   Reading the words in a story, sentence or paragraph is important, but children must also understand what they read.  Comprehending is the ultimate goal of reading.   ~Mark Weakland Literacy
