Expectations and Requirements

Expectations:

Class will begin each day with a Math Talks and Vocabulary Card, which helps build problem solving skills. Homework will then be checked and should be on the desk ready to grade. Assignments, notes, quizzes and tests MUST be kept orderly in a Binder.

Special notes for Parents/Guardians:

  • Check with your son/daughter periodically to see that he/she has the proper supplies needed for class.
  • Monitor absences and completion of absent make-up work. Check my website for assignments when your student is absent.
  • Contact me as soon as a concern arises – don’t wait until it becomes a problem.
  • Encourage the student to seek help whenever necessary.

Daily Problems

Students are expected to participate and complete their Math Talks. They will be collected periodically for a grade.

Homework

All assignments are due at the beginning of the period. All problems, done in pencil, must be attempted for full credit (5 points) and work must be shown. Students must be prepared to ask questions if something is unclear. Absent students must make up missing assignments. Late homework will be accepted only with a pass.

Projects

Projects may be assigned throughout the year and in place of a final exam. Projects may be worth up to one test grade (100 points).

Tests and Quizzes

Generally, there will be a quiz or a test following every unit. Tests are worth 100 points, and quizzes range from 20-60 points.

Participation

Students are expected to participate in lessons and take responsibility for their learning.

Daily problems, homework, quizzes, and test scores will make up the grade, which is based on total points earned. Conduct grades will be a reflection of a student’s ability to abide by classroom and school rules.

Passes

Each quarter, students will receive 2 Homework Passes. The homework pass may be attached to a completed, late assignment to receive full credit for the late work. Any unused passes may be turned in at the end of the quarter for extra credit! Homework Passes are for late homework assignments only; they may NOT be used for Daily Problem Worksheets or Projects.

Grading Scale

Numeric grades will be given for all assignments, however, in accordance with KGMS policy, the letter grade equivalents are listed below:

90-100 A

80-89 B

70-79 C

60-69 D
