Mrs. Rachel Mercer,
School Counselor
I am SVA's School Counselor for our students in 4th to 6th grade. This is my 23rd year in education, and my 10th year at Summit View.
In my Virtual Classroom you can find information on many different areas that I cover in the classroom and in my office.
My Mission
The mission of the Summit View Academy Counseling program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. School counselors strive to empower students to maximize their potential and academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents, and community members, school counselors support the educational system to ensure all students at Summit View Academy are prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to function in a changing society.
My Role as a School Counselor
1) As a Leader
Playing an active role in leading students to succeed through school-based leadership, school improvement and curriculum focused on academic and personal/social development.
2) As an Advocate
Advocate for students to be able to access academic, career and personal/social curriculum and support programs at the individual, group or entire school population level.
3) As a Collaborator
The counselor collaborates with school staff, parents, outside agencies and local businesses to promote student achievement of goals through academic and counseling standards.
4) As an Agent of Systemic Change
School Counselors act on identified challenges that impede students’ success by serving on committees to influence program and policy change. Helping to create action plans that address identified needs of students to maximize their potential for success.
