Advanced Placement United States History is a challenging course that is meant to be the equivalent of a freshman college course and can earn students college credit. It is a two-term (18 weeks, 5 days per week, 88 minute classes) survey of American history from the age of exploration and discovery to present day. Solid reading and writing skills, along with a willingness to devote considerable time to homework and study, are necessary to succeed. Emphasis is placed on critical and analytical thinking skills, essay writing, and interpreting primary and secondary sources.
- Master a broad body of historical knowledge

- Use historical data to support an argument or position
- Interpret and apply data from original documents (various forms)
- Effectively use analytical skills of evaluation, cause and effect, compare and contrast
- Work collaboratively with others to solve problems
- Synthesize creative projects utilizing historical knowledge learned in class.
- Develop an appreciation of the sacrifices made by other Americans in order that we might enjoy the freedoms we have today.
