This book award Oklahoma honors the Native American leader Sequoyah, for his unique achievement in creating the Cherokee syllabary. It is a student chosen award. The students in 3rd through 5th grade that read 3 or more of the nominees for that year can vote for their favorite book to win the Sequoyah Award for that year.
