Restoring Wildcat Spirit:
A Community Art Build
We will make our school building feel more “homey” for the students and teachers who will be here for the next five years.
The Edgerly Building is our school, but it doesn’t feel like home...yet. The building has zero color. One of our classmates said, “It’s very bland, like no flavor, no seasoning.” Another classmate said, “I spent a night at a hospital last month and it was prettier than this building.” Lastly, we are the only school that doesn’t have a sign to represent us. There is a small sign that says “Winter Hill Community Innovation School,” but the large outdoor sign says “Edgerly Education Center.”
Thanks to a grant from the Somerville Arts Council, we have all of the supplies we need to paint six murals around the school building! These murals will share positive messages, reflect the Wildcat spirit, and remind younger students that anything is paws-ible when you ROAR. All students and teachers will also be invited to add their handprint to the murals on the first and third floors. That's how we can feel like we all belong here!
