Course Description: This course provides students with the opportunity to study the principles of life
on earth through investigation and observation. Students will investigate topics including cells, biological
energy mechanisms, genetics, and evolution. Also included are ecology, plants, human life and animals as
well as current topics in science. Students will complete laboratories through the use of microscopes,
dissections, and other techniques. Evaluation of students is based on daily work, lab performance and
participation, tests, and projects.
CHEMISTRY

Course Description: This course is an in-depth study of the atom and how and why it combines with
other atoms to form compounds. Instruction is provided through lectures, laboratory experiments, discussions, and audio-visual presentations. Evaluation of student progress is a combination of tests, quizzes, class participation, lab activities, and daily work. Each student will need a calculator.
SCIENCE 1: EARTH SCIENCE AND CHEMISTRY

Course Description: This course is an introduction to the basics of chemistry and Earth science. Students learn about conservation laws and characteristic properties of elements and compounds and how matter interacts. They also study the basic concepts of Earth science disciplines including geology, astronomy, and meteorology and their applications to the world around us. Instruction is provided by lectures, laboratory experiments, discussions, and audio-visual presentations. Evaluation of student progress is a combination of tests, quizzes, lab activities and projects, class participation, and homework.
HEALTH 2

Course Description: This course is a continuation of 10th-grade Health. This course will be informative and preventative in nature. Areas of study include: mental/emotional health, consumer health,
