What We're Learning

October:

Reading: We will begin looking at non-fiction text features to help us understand what we read.

Writing: We will do a short unit on poetry to look at how writers use figurative language in their writing. Then, we move right into writing short fiction stories where we will hopefully incorporate some of that figurative language we learned about!

4th Grade Math: We will be focusing our learning on multiplication and division of whole numbers.

5th Grade Math: - We will be focusing our learning on adding and subtracting fractions and decimals.

4th Grade Science - We are continuing learning about energy.

5th Grade Science - We are continuing learning about parts and wholes, finishing up with a look at atoms and molecules.

August/September:

Reading: We start out the year establishing a culture of readers in our class and then dive right into exploring characters.

Writing: This first part of the year we spend some time together getting started with our writing workshop and we enjoy writing personal narratives together.

4th Grade Math: Unit 1 students are learning about place value and multi digit addition and subtraction.

5th Grade Math: Unit 1 students are working on addition and subtraction with fractions.

4th Grade Science we are beginning our unit on energy. We start out exploring the different types of energy.

5th Grade Science we are exploring parts and wholes and looking at different mixtures. Sounds intriguing, doesn't it? Check back to find out more!
