This year, we will study approximately 10 vocabulary words per week. After two weeks (or 20 words), we will have a cumulative vocabulary test (usually on a Friday). This is your vocabulary list for the ENTIRE YEAR. You are expected to: 1) look up the words, 2) write down the part(s) of speech and definitions, and 3) write a sentence or two using the word in your own handwriting. Doing these three things well constitutes complete vocabulary homework. Definitions and sentences written on THIS SHEET will not be counted. When your vocabulary homework is checked at random, it must be with you and printed on paper or notecards. (It will not be read or evaluated from your phone or an electronic device, and it will NOT be accepted late after we have gone over definitions and sentences together in class.
The upcoming week’s ten words, parts of speech, definition(s) and sentence will be due on Wednesdays. I will call on students randomly to provide the word, definition, and sentences using the words. You must be prepared when called upon. I might also collect your work at random.
On the tests you need to know the word, spelling, part(s) of speech and the definition(s). Be able to use the word in an original sentence. Words from past lists will be included on tests.
All students know about and are expected to take vocabulary tests with the class, even after absences earlier that week. Learn them early!
