Mu Alpha Theta

Description:  Mu Alpha Theta, cosponsored by the Mathematical Association of America & the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, is an organization whose purpose is to stimulate interest in mathematics by providing public recognition of superior mathematical scholarship. It is an international high school and junior/community college mathematics club in which there are now over 1300 chapters in 42 states as well as chapters in Canada, Japan, Cuba, and Germany.  D’Evelyn’s chapter was chartered in 1998.  Our service projects the past few years have included providing math tutoring during 7th Hour for students at D’Evelyn and supporting Trick or Treat Street. 


Eligibility: Students must have a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.0 in previous math courses. In addition, they must be in one of the following groups:

1.  Juniors in Honors Precalculus/Trig/Calculus, AP Calculus or beyond (post-secondary math classes)

2.  Seniors in regular Precalculus/Trig, Honors Precalculus/Trig/Calculus, AP Calculus or beyond (post-secondary math classes)

3.  Seniors in AP Stats who have completed or are concurrently enrolled in Precalculus/Trig or above


Application:  

1.  Complete the Google Application Form below. 

2.  Then print a copy of your transcript, highlight all math courses taken in high school, and give it to Mrs. Smith. 


Dues/Fees: New members pay a one-time fee of $10. Seniors who want cords to wear at graduation pay $6. (Total of $16 for both.) Do not pay until I confirm you have been accepted. Pay by cash in an envelope with your name written on it, or by check made out to D'Evelyn with your name written on the memo line, and give payment to Mrs. Smith.
