English 12

Welcome to English 12, your final year of high school English class!

In this class, you will learn why people read, write and  speak in order to communicate. You will learn how to identify claims, evidence, point of view, and main ideas which make up arguments. You will participate in a short fiction unit and a short non-fiction unit, both will focus on the components of each and how to read each for ideas and content. You will participate in writing an informational research paper, an argumentative research paper, a short story, an argumentative essay and synthesis essay, among other forms of writing. You will also read a novel, No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy and compare it to its film counterpart. Google Classroom will be used for class work/assignments. All assignments and homework will be posted week by week under the Classwork tab.  Some of your work will be handed in hard copy and some will be submitted electronically in Google Classroom.

2023-2024 will be a challenging year for all of us, so the most important thing to remember this year is to communicate with me about questions/issues that may arise during the course of the semester. Do not procrastinate! Please take responsibility for your own learning and keeping up with the weekly calendar posted in Google classroom and on the board in the classroom.

Let's have a fun, interesting, and challenging year together!
