Below is a list of topics that are covered in many math classes, including (but not limited to) Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry and PreCalculus. Many ofthem, not all, would be considered pre-requisite knowledge needed to succeed in this course. As a result, you should familiarize yourself with all topics below either before the semester starts or during the semester as a reminder of prior knowledge already obtained in your math career.
Remember that there will be a prerequisite quiz the first week of school. If these skills need to be refined, following the link from each key-term and watch some videos to help supplement your learnings (notes and tests) from last year. Many of these videos will act as supplemental help throughout this year! Enjoy!
- Solving Equations: 1-Step, Multi-Step, Application Situations, Literal Equations, and Absolute Value Equations
- Function Notation: substituting values for x, substituting for f(x), Domain and Range
- Linear Functions: graphing, slope-intercept form, point-slope form, graphing inequalities
- Solving Systems: Systems of equations and inequalities
- Polynomials: degree, terms, naming, adding, subtracting, multiplying, Long Division, Synthetic Division, Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, Complex Numbers and Conjugates
- Quadratics: graphing, vertex, max/min, line of symmetry, Quadratic Formula, factoring, ZPP, completing the square, vertex form, Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, Complex Numbers and Conjugates
- Function Transformations: Parent Functions, vertical and horizontal translations, vertical stretch/compression, reflections about the x- and y-axis
