Objectives

For two days we will guide each participant through:

  • understanding the nuts and bolts of Curriculum Mapping
  • aligning curriculum and assessment to standards
  • integrating the new literacies: digital, media, and global into teaching and learning
  • develop an action plan for moving the work forward at your school.

We are keenly aware that your maps need to reflect your specific setting whether a public, independent, religious school, or international school.

Student Learning Outcomes

Bold Moves Boot Camp focuses on our Four Phase Model for implementation.

Our approach is to customize our work to respond to your specific school or district needs.

I. Establishing Your Mission for Mapping

II. Procedures for Launching Curriculum Mapping

III. Integrating Assessment Data into Curriculum Maps: Improving Student Performance

IV. Upgrading Maps for the Contemporary Learner

We are keenly aware that your maps need to reflect your specific setting whether a public, independent, religious school, or international school.

Basic mapping focuses on developing the first two phases with exposure to the last two phases.

Advanced mapping has a brief review of the first two phases with a focus on developing the last two phases.

Mapping for Leadership focuses on developing action plans for the process while increasing knowledge about all four phases.

Agenda

I. Establishing Your Mission for Mapping. We believe that mission driven programs rather than compliance driven initiatives have greater likelihood of supporting the development of our learners. Our team is committed to the modernization of our programs so that we can prepare our learners for the future. We view curriculum mapping as an opportunity to upgrade. Whether your work is driven by a need to align to standards or to a specific pedagogy, we want to provide a genuine purpose for your work that will directly impact curriculum and assessment decisions. We will consider your leadership structure to carry out the work. Particular attention will be given to developing site based teaching and learning councils. The key to the work will be to target all decisions on the best interests of your specific student population.

II. Procedures for Launching Curriculum Mapping. We will describe how to get started in the mapping process and to revise curriculum to increase student performance. Calendar‐based curriculum mapping is a useful, down‐to‐earth approach to the age‐old problem of articulation. You will receive guidance on how to construct a quality map employing mapping rubrics. All of the work presented will be viewed through a developmental perspective recognizing the unique characteristics of learners and their schools through early childhood, upper elementary, middle school, and the high school. Special focus will be given to selecting and developing technology to support the mapping process. The session will be supported with extensive examples of maps and case studies from the field demonstrating how communication between and within buildings expands to improve performance of our learners.

III. Integrating Assessment Data into Curriculum Maps: Improving Student Performance. The focus will be on how to directly revise curriculum within and between buildings in order to improve student performance. Special focus will be given to gap analysis of assessment data and a formal collaborative inquiry model to examine student work. Along these lines we will coach you on how to organize and involve staff members in meaningful dialogue about maps. Strategies for developing a consensus map reflecting internally developed benchmark assessments will be a primary outcome.

IV. Upgrading Maps for the Contemporary Learner. In this phase, we will share resources and strategies to review maps with the goal of deliberate ‘upgrading’. This means the strategic replacement of dated content, skills, and assessments with current information. A specific focus will be on cultivated the new literacies: digital, media, global. You will leave this last session not only with a professional development plan, but a plan that reflects the modern classroom.
