I believe that a student’s grade should reflect his or her level of understanding and/or performance of a specified task. Daily work, or homework, is vital practice of content I want students to master. Most of the time this work is checked for completion and mastery level of the standard taught, but it is not calculated as part of the grade since it is practice. As we review the information in class, students will learn from correcting their mistakes and work to develop the skill covered to mastery level.
Final product assignments, such as projects, essays, papers, book evaluations, etc., are evaluated based on the standards for the course. If this type of assignment is late, it will be noted and a grade deduction will be applied. These are also assignments that are absolutely required and students will complete them before the end of the school year.
GRADING: Grading is based on points earned on assessments only.
Meets = M
Partially Meets = P
Developing = D
Insufficient Evidence = IE
Retakes-
- As per district policy - retakes are available for "Summative Assessments," "Formative Assessments," and "Practice Assignments" for more credit. Retakes/Redoes require a study session/reteach and must be handed in with the original assessment/assignment attached (you can add to the original assignment but it has to be done in pen or a different color so that I know what is new). Retakes can be taken up until the last week of the quarter, unless it was scheduled ahead of time. The retake will not necessarily be the same type of test and could be a written test even if it was multiple choice. Please see individual rubrics and scales for more information.
MAKE-UP OR LATE WORK: Students who have been absent are responsible for getting their homework assignments and turning them in. See the board and my website for information on what was missed and handouts. Turn in box for late or make-up work is the basket near my desk.
Zero, Missing and Incomplete scores:
If a student receives an IE on a test or assignment it was due to: 1. Cheating (documented with a major/minor) 2. Test/Assignment misconduct (talking when not allowed, using technology when not allowed, taking pictures of the test etc...documented with a major/minor) 3. Handed in blank/no effort made. 4. Never handed in or done by the end of the quarter.
If a student has a "Missing" in the gradebook, the assignment/test has not been completed yet and will turn to an IE if not done by the end of the quarter.
Incomplete grades are only given in special circumstances. Please see Mrs. Drexler for more information if necessary.
There is not an extra credit option for any assignments.
