Lesson plans, announcements, and assignments will also be posted on Google Classroom. Parents will be emailed Google Classroom invites during the first week of school. After accepting the invite, weekly updates will be sent via email and can be changed to daily updates. If you are a parent and need a new invite, let me know.
1. Be Respectful
-To yourself, peers, adults, and materials
2. Be Responsible
-Come to class prepared and stay on task
3. Participate
-You will get out of this class what you put into it
Consequences will depend on the incident and the number of times it happened prior. Possible consequences include, but are not limited to, change of seating, conference, loss of privilege, fix-it on the spot, call home, and/or incident referral.
Cell phones, earbuds, and smartwatches interfere with learning in many ways. According to the student handbook, cell phones, earbuds, and smartwatches are not allowed in the school during the school day. These items will be taken away if they are brought to my classroom.
-Students will not be able to redo scores for practice work completion. Credit will not be given for practice work that is more than two weeks late. Depending on the assignment and the timing (such as the end of a unit or a quarter or my availability), that time frame might be shorter. Points may be deducted for turning in work late.
-Late work may take up to two weeks to grade since work turned in on time will be graded first. It is important that you turn your work in on time to receive feedback to improve your learning.
-If you are ineligible and turn in late work, the two-week time frame for grading still applies.
-All projects, papers, tests, etc must be turned in to avoid an incomplete.
80% - Skills: This will be based on projects, papers, tests, end of unit discussions, and/or presentations related to focus standards for the unit.
20% - Practice Work Completion: This will be based on the completion of writer's notebook entries, daily assignments, homework, etc. Since this is practice work, not everything will receive a grade. You can expect one or two scores entered a week for this category. This category also includes independent reading, which is a component of every English course at Fosston High School as stated in the handbook. The independent reading/AR portion is based on the percentage of the AR goal completed.
Students will sometimes have a chance to retake a test or redo a paper. In order for this to happen, a student needs to have all assignments for that standard turned in and complete additional practice. The type of redo will vary depending on the skill being worked on. For example, redos for essays are considered to happen during the writing process, instead of after submitting final drafts, since I provide feedback multiple times on drafts.
Students who cheat (including use of AI, plagiarism, etc) will receive a 0 for the assignment or project as stated in the handbook. Assisting a classmate in cheating by providing answers will have the same consequence.
Students who have not completed all tests, papers, projects, reflections, etc, will receive an incomplete at the end of the quarter. Students will also receive an incomplete if they do not earn a minimum of 5 AR pts on a book not being studied in class. If the work or minimum AR requirements are not completed within two weeks of the end of the quarter, the incomplete will become an F. Students who have an incomplete are ineligible for all school activities.
