My name is Mrs. Gilbertson and this is my fourth year teaching 7th, 8th, and 12th grade English in the district. This year I also have the opportunity to provide additional instruction to junior high students who need extra support through reading intervention. I am very excited for this addition!

Previously, I taught at Stuart Middle School in Louisville, KY and Ponemah Elementary (grades 5-8). I earned my Bachelor of Science in English Education from Bemidji State University in 2010 and a Master of Arts in Literacy Education from Hamline University in 2016. Additionally, I am currently serving as the president-elect for the Minnesota Council of Teachers of English. In the classroom, my focus is on helping students learn to think creatively and critically about what they read and write. Because I also feel that it is important to have a clear idea of how students are progressing towards mastery of the standards, instruction, assessments, and grading for my courses are all aligned to specific standards.

On a more personal note, I grew up in Gully and attended Magelssen Elementary (K-2) and Clearbrook-Gonvick Elementary/High School (3-12). I live in Bagley with my husband, son (8), and daughter (9). In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing, going to zoos with my family, and playing board games.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. E-mail usually works best and I can be reached at sgilbertson@fosston.k12.mn.us.  Otherwise, you can call me at the school or stop by at the following times:
