District 601 Student Assessment Information

ASVAB(Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) 3 hours
The ASVAB is a locally required test given to Gr. 11 students. The test consists of 10 sections that include: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Automotive and Shop Information, Mechanical Comprehension, Assembling Objects and Verbal Expression. The test is proctored by the United States Military Entrance Processing Command and is free of charge. The test is required for admission to any military branch.
ACT (American College Testing) Plus Writing 3 hours 35 min
This test is a College and Career Ready assessment available to all Grade 11 students and any Grade 12 students who did not take the test as a junior. The written ACT Plus writing is given in the school setting at no charge. All students in Grade 11 must be given the opportunity to test but this test is not a local requirement.
ACCESS for ELLs
This test is a secure large-scale English language proficiency assessment administered to Kindergarten through 12th grade students who have been identified as English language learners (ELLs).
Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA)
This test measures achievement on the Minnesota Academic Standards and will show progress on meeting those standards over time.
Reading required for students in Grades 3-8 and 10 (2-3.5 hrs)
Math required for students in Grades 3-8 and 11 (1.5-2.5 hrs)
Science required for students in Grades 5, 8 & HS (Grade 10) (1.75-2 hrs)
Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS)
This test is for students who receive special education services and meet eligibility criteria.This test measures achievement on the Minnesota Academic Standards and will show progress on meeting those standards over time.
Reading required for students in Grades 3-8 and 10 (Length varies by individual)
Math required for students in Grades 3-8 and 11 (Length varies by individual)
Science required for students in Grades 5, 8 & HS (Grade 10) (Length varies by individual)
PSAT-Preliminary SAT- Scholastic Assessment Test 2 hours 45 min
This is a standardized test for high school achievement. Scores are used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program. This is an optional test for Gr. 10 & 11 students. It is not a local requirement.
STAR 360
Star Reading Assessment provides interim data to set Accelerated Reader goals. It is also used to monitor progress and growth of grades 2-12 students in math and reading.
MCA/ MTAS Testing results are handed out at open house, conferences,
special meetings or mailed to parent/guardians.
