Speech/Language Pathologists (SLPs) are professionals trained in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of communication disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing and fluency. SLPs work with people of all ages from babies to those in late adulthood. Regardless of where the SLP works (i.e. assisted living facilities, hospitals, private practices or clinics, rehabilitation facilities, schools, skilled nursing/long term care facilities or corporate settings), they all have the same level of training and certification.
SLPs work with kids and adults on how to use the right words when they talk, how to say sounds correctly so they can be understood by others, how to use their words to make friends, how to listen, follow directions, solve problems, and talk using an appropriate rhythm, pitch or vocal quality.
If you suspect your child has a communication disorder, please contact your child's school or teacher.
