Class materials:
Equipment ~ What you will need:
*1. Instrument - Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass (“Rent-to-own” plan is the most common way to obtain one)
- Cello/Bass players may use a school instrument during class- a small donation to cover maintenance costs is appreciated.
- A small number of instruments are available to those with a financial need on a first come first serve basis for a small
maintenance fee.
-IF you plan on buying or renting from a vendor that is not listed, please notify the director so they can ensure
the instrument is playable and usable. If the instrument doesn’t sound good, the student won’t want to
practice or continue to play.
*2. Rosin - Dark or Light for violin/viola/cello and “Pops” brand for bass.
*3. Shoulder rest (Violin/Viola) or Rock stop (Cello/Bass)
*4. Book - Essential Elements for Strings (Double check that you have the correct instrument)
6th grade: Book 1 7th grade: Book 1 & 2 8th grade: Book 2
*5. Cleaning Cloth - Cotton cloth to clean off instrument. (A clean old wash cloth works great!)
6. 3-ring binder (½ or 1 inch, hard cover) - Any color
7. Pencil
8. Concert Attire
6th & 7th Grade Concert Attire: Dressy clothes- must follow school dress-code policy.
Note: Skirts/Dresses must come to at least mid-calf.
8th Grade Concert Attire: Concert Black clothes (ie. black top, pants/dress/skirt, shoes, socks)-
must follow school dress-code policy. Note: Skirts/Dresses must come to at least mid-calf. We are preparing for next year and learning about professional concert attire.
