Indian River Middle Schools 7th grade Technology program utilizes hands on learning where students can explore new subject areas such as basic woodworking, problem solving, alternative energy, manufacturing and engineering. Projects
Processing - Wood Shelf
Start with the basics. We will process some pine and turn it into a wall shelf. You will use tools like the scroll saw, drum sander, belt and disc sander, block plane, and back saw to name a few.
Problem Solving/Systems - Dragster
The problem... Make a block of basswood race down a 40 foot track in as little time as possible. The solution... Well, let's save that for class.
Manufacturing - Spinning Tops
Craft approach or mass production, you will learn about both. Split the class into two companies both will build, package, and advertise your product... a spinning top.
Engineering - Bridge
Engineer and build the lightest balsa wood bridge that holds the most weight.
