Art 7

Course Description:

Importantly throughout each Visual Arts Unit students should be "actively engaging in the processes that constitute creation...in the arts." The hands-on experience that you have the opportunity to engage in within the arts is unique to any other subject area. This course introduces the basic Visual Elements and Principles of Design used in art making including areas of painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and more. Each project exposes students to a variety of mediums.

Our focus in Art 7 is based upon Betty Edwards research in “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain”. Students are taught the mindset of "Right-Brain Thinking”. Activating the R-Side of the brain can be taught through a variety of techniques. One simple technique is listening to non-lyrical music. Thinking in R-Mode helps students analyze differently than if they were utilizing the natural way of analytically thinking with the Left Side of the brain. L-Brain predominately solves problems verbally rather than visually. The Left-Brain has the tendency to interfere with students visual problem solving. It is my focus to teach students how to activate the powerful properties of both the Left and Right-Brain. The critical and creative thinking that takes place within the art room is applicable to all other curriculum and will prepare students for success in the 21st century workforce!

The art room will be rich with opportunities to help ensure a fun and exciting experience in Middle School!
