Geometry

This course is aligned to the NYS Common Core Standards for Geometry.

This year in Geometry, students will acquire tools to help them explore two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. Students will learn about rigid and non-rigid transformations to include dilations and similarity, congruence and coordinate geometry. Students will be able to prove various geometric facts about triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles by using axiomatic proof and coordinate geometry proof. Students will be able to perform constructions and finally, students will model real world objects using geometric formulas for perimeter, area, and volume.

I. Bell-ringer- A bell-ringer is an anticipatory set for the class. At the very start of class, a bell-ringer will be posted and every student will participate. It lasts about 3-5 minutes.

II. Outcomes/Objectives- These topics and/or standards will be posted and will be taught during the class for that day.

III. Expectations-

i.Homework/Quizzes- 65% of the grade received for the class will come from completing homework and classwork assignments. You will have classwork daily...homework is as needed.

ii.Tests/Projects- Tests/Projects make up 30% of the grade

iii.Participation- doing daily work and being in school will earn you 5% of your grade.

iii.Absenteeism- If you miss a day, you are responsible for the work missed. Homework will be due the following day after you return. You will also be responsible for both the new assignment and old assignment.

iv.Dress-code- Be respectful of yourself, myself and others around you. See student handbook.
