Grade Level Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading Levels

Independent Level: The level a student can read and understand with minimal assistance.

Instructional Level: The level a student is able to read with support and guidance.

Your child should be selecting books to read at home for enjoyment that are at their INDEPENDENT reading level. During reading group with a reading teacher, we use books at the students' INSTRUCTIONAL reading level.

FOUNTAS AND PINNELL READING LEVELS BY GRADE

Please note that the RA teachers generally work with students who have guided reading levels in the orange and light blue areas of the chart. If you would like to know the guided reading level of your child, pleases contact their reading teacher.
