There are 3 units of study in second grade.

Life Science: Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems In this unit, students will learn that all plants need sunlight and water to grow, but it may occur in different amounts.
1. 1. 1. 1. Essential Questions
        What do all plants need to grow?
        How are seeds dispersed?
        Why do different plants grow in different environments?
        Why do different animals live in different environments?
        How does a changing environment affect the plants and animals in an ecosystem?
Earth Science: Earth's Systems: Processes that Shape the Earth In this unit, students will learn about natural disasters and that they are one type of earth event. Earth events occur both quickly and slowly and impact the land around us. Land forms are created and change over long periods of time due to slow earth processes.

        What effect do natural disasters have on Earth and our land?
        What effect do wind and water have on our land?
        How can we minimize the impact of wind or water on our land?
        What shapes to land and water have on our Earth?
        How are land forms and water forms formed? (IE.. Glacier Lakes)
        Where on Earth is water liquid and where is it ice?
Physical Science: Structures and Properties of Matter In this unit, students will learn how they can group objects by their physical properties and also how materials are able to be grouped by physical properties.
1. 1. 1. 1. Essential Questions
        How can we group objects by their physical properties?
        How do physical properties affect the function of an object?
        How can an object made of a small set of pieces be disassembled and made into a new object?
        How come some changes caused by heating or cooling can be reversed and some cannot?
