Archaeological research in Taiwan began during the Japanese colonial period. With the changing times, research findings have encompassed different eras and perspectives. The purpose of archaeology has also gradually shifted from purely academic research to applied research. This "application" does not simply refer to new archaeological discoveries providing new insights into human history and culture, but rather to using archaeological knowledge and techniques to serve modern society. This trend is inextricably linked to the development of contemporary society, culture, and economy, and is reflected in the establishment of archaeological companies. Since the first archaeological company appeared in 2013, there are now 17. Their services include environmental impact assessments, monitoring, trial excavations, rescue excavations, exhibition design, educational outreach activities, and even archaeology-related cultural and creative products. This article introduces the formation process, current status, and potential future development trends of archaeological companies in Taiwan and explains their services and several case studies. It is hoped that participants from different countries will gain another perspective on the development of archaeology in Taiwan.
